Ever since I made the decision to eat healthy, I have looking into food with less calories and more nutrients. I stopped eating Chinese food as they were full of oil, calories and trans-fat. They also have high sodium amounts and what not. Nonetheless, I was craving for Panda Express even though I was on a diet. I heard from one of my friends that they put all the data on their website so that customers can eat safe and healthy.

One thing you probably do not know about me is that I like spicy food. Being in United States where most food is not hot nor spicy sometimes makes me upset. I always had the Orange Chicken before because it is legendary but now that I have decided to eat healthy and be strict on my diet, I had to take something new. When I checked the online menu, the first item I stumbled upon was Orange Chicken. The photo made me crave for it even more and I thought of cheating on my diet. It had 380 calories and 35 mg cholesterol. It had 140 calories from fat! What was I eating all these days? I blame it for my weight gain. Then, I remember I had it only once a week and I gained weight for not eating vegetables and not exercising at all.
Moving on, the next item was String Bean Chicken Breast. Chicken Breast is really healthy particularly if you want to have something rich in protein. String beans make it better. That is why it was recommended from Panda Express a healthy choice. It was Wok smart. I was looking for the sign of a red chili which meant spicy. It was not so I did not order that. Other than that, I loved how it had only 190 calories which only 80 calories from fat. The protein was high as 14 g. This dish gets a lot of praise particularly for being delicious and healthy at the same time. Most people may not like spicy food like me.
The next item was Sweet Fire Chicken Breast and I was happy it had the red chili sign meaning it is spicy. I could not be more disappointed to find out it also has the same calories has orange chicken and the same cholesterol as it. The protein is also less that String Bean Chicken Breast. The next time was something I always ignored and never thought of ordering. The name was something I did not understand so I always skipped it. It was Kung Pao Chicken. I was the happiest because it was both spicy and healthy at the same time. It had both the icons, Wok Smart and the red chili.
Even though my friends told me before that they love it. It has an addictive taste and they also make it at home. The spicy, salty and sweet flavor is appealing. I was never interested because I heard I have to stir-fry red dried chilies which will get me coughing. I also do not know how to use hoisin sauce, cornstarch, Sichuan pepper and sesame oil together.
I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken with some mixed veggies. I loved how the put the ginger garlic sauce with the zucchini. Normally, I do not like the taste of zucchini but Panda Express disguised it by making it delicious. The bell peppers added spice to it and the crunchy peanuts were a perfect addition to make the meal a satisfying one. When you make this at home, you have one advantage which is not adding the peanuts. If you do not add them, it makes it a more satisfying meal. I did not want that. I loved the taste of peanuts plus it is already healthy why edit the recipe further?
After having it, I fell in love with the taste. The flavor is flawless and I cannot believe they sell this at such a less price. When I told my friends that they were right about it, they told me to get the Panda Express Kung Pao Sauce so that I can make it at home with chicken, zucchini and other ingredients. I never want to make it at home because I would have to marinate it and keep it in the refrigerator for hours. Rather than that, I could just go to Panda Express and order it. They would give me the food instantly.
One thing for sure is that I did order the sauce online. It was excellent. I did not make the Kung Pao Chicken but I used it for my steak. I also made stir-fried chicken and dressed it up with this sauce. The sauce is also spicy. Next time I go to Panda Express to order two mains and a side, I will go with this and something I do not know with mixed veggies. The mixed veggies are the best nutritional option but some people go for fried rice because of the taste. It is a popular choice and Panda Express do not have brown or white rice ready all the time. Previously, I used to take the Chow Mein because I cannot make it at home but my friends order friend rice. They said they feel the noodles to be dry. I never felt that. In fact, I am more of a noodle person than rice.
If I could eat noodles for the rest of my life instead of rice, I gladly would take the challenge. I love the pappardelle, angel hair, shells and all kind of pasta noodles. I also like flat noodles. I adore Chicken Chow Mein, Beef Lo Mein and anything as such. Due to being on a strict diet, I had to cut down on noodles and stick with vegetables. From now, Kung Pao Chicken will be my number one choice. If you are looking for something hot and healthy and the same time, this should be your choice. You can take broccoli beef as the second main since that is another way to eat beef happily without the guilty feeling that you are consuming too much calories.
